For Faculty Abusive Conduct
To report Abusive Conduct instigated by a faculty member (who might also be a department chair, associate dean, or dean), please submit the reporting form below. This form may be used to report incidents that you believe are in violation of University of Utah policy. It DOES NOT constitute filing a formal complaint. The affected party will be contacted to be given options for how they wish to proceed, including filing a formal complaint if applicable.

Unprofessional behavior is addressed in the Code of Faculty Rights & Responsibilities.
The University of Utah is committed to providing a campus climate that supports and sustains faculty, staff, and students. The purpose of Policy 1-020: Required Professional Boundaries in Relationships is to encourage professional boundaries in supervisory and instructional situations and discourage conflicts of interest in professional relationships. Please refer to the policy for details on workplace & instructional relationships that require disclosure and for associated definitions.
University Policy 6-010 addresses Academic Freedom and Academic Grievances. Please reach out to the officeforfaculty@utah.edu if you have concerns in these areas.
If you have a question or a concern about your employment contract that cannot be addressed at the departmental or college level, please contact the Office for Faculty at officeforfaculty@utah.edu.
- Tenure-line faculty reviews, including retention, promotion, and tenure, are governed by University Policy 6-303, departmental or college guidelines, and college charters.
- Career-line faculty reviews for reappointment and promotion are governed by University Policy 6-310, departmental or college guidelines, and college charters.
- Tenured Faculty Reviews (TFRs, aka Post-Tenure Reviews) are governed by University Policy 6-321 and departmental or college guidelines.
If you have concerns about the process or outcome of a review (either during or following a review) that cannot be resolved at the departmental or college level, please feel free to reach out to officeforfaculty@utah.edu. You can also learn about appeal processes for tenure-line faculty in University Policy 6-303 and for career-line faculty in University Policy 6-310.
This guide assists the campus community in responding to situations in which faculty members are targeted by individuals or groups outside of the University based on the content of the faculty member's research, teaching, clinical care, and/or service. It addresses potential concerns in such situations and informs the campus about resources available to assist individual faculty members, department chairs, and other administrators.
