Four separate “pods,” organized by broad disciplines and faculty type (i.e., tenure-line, career-line), will meet monthly with a senior faculty mentor for cohort building and to address various aspects of faculty life at the U. In addition, all four pods will meet together quarterly with key leaders from around the university to help set the new faculty up for success at Utah. The wider faculty community will also be welcome to take part in these quarterly events.

This in-person training is based on curriculum from the Center for the Improvement of Mentoring Experiences in Research (CIMER) and is intended to help improve your mentoring experience as well as the educational experience for students.
While this workshop has been specifically designed for faculty who mentor graduate students, the skills taught will also be applicable to faculty in any mentoring role! Participation in this workshop can also help fulfill a mentor training requirement for those faculty who hold an NIH or NSF training grant!

This program offers funding of up to $2,500 to awarded fellows to support travel from the University of Utah to another Big 12 (host) university in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas. Recipients may work on collaborative projects in the areas of research and/or teaching; consult with faculty at the host institution; offer lectures, performances, or symposia; develop new skills, or take advantage of a unique archive, laboratory, or other facility.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the fiscal year and will continue for as long as funding is available. Faculty members who apply after the funds have been depleted will be invited to re-apply the following year. Applications are subject to review and are not automatically funded.

Faculty Reviews Preparation
Confidence, Clarity, and Career Success - Demystifying Faculty Reviews:
These programs are designed to equip Main Campus faculty with the tools, guidance, and resources they need to feel prepared for every faculty review. Our offerings also provide staff and academic leaders who support faculty review processes with the knowledge and best practices necessary to provide effective guidance. The goal is to ensure that the review process is smooth, consistent, and transparent for everyone involved.

Attendance is limited (and RSVPs are required) in order to address the specific needs and interests of each attendee.

This in-person workshop is intended for faculty who have recently completed a formal retention review. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of their review, receive individualized feedback from the Office for Faculty Leadership, and begin developing a plan for the next stage of their career — helping them make the most of the next two years, including this summer.
Invitations will be sent directly to those faculty members who undergoing a formal retention review. If you are going undergoing a formal retention review and do not receive any communications about this workshop by late March please reach out to the office for faculty at officeforfaculty@utah.edu.
This workshop is for faculty members in their first or second year post-tenure. Topics include writing External Evaluation Letters, serving on RPT committees, pursuing and rethinking your research agenda, service loads, mentorship of junior faculty, and other topics of interest to the group.

This workshop is for all faculty members undergoing a tenured-faculty review (TFR) either this or next academic year. Whether you are preparing for your first TFR or would like a refresher before your next TFR this workshop is for you.
This event reviews the TFR process (including impact from recent legislation), helps faculty members plan for their file, and provides time to workshop personal statements and CVs. Faculty undergoing their first TFR will be encouraged to reflect on their path toward promotion while senior faculty who have had undergone a TFR previously will be encouraged to reflect on their career paths for the next five to ten years.

Academic Leadership Support and Success
Supporting the Growth and Excellence of our Deans, Chairs, and Associate Deans:
These programs provide academic leaders with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to succeed in their leadership roles. Beyond cultivating individual preparation and skills, our programs intentionally build cohort of peers - fostering meaningful connections, shared learning, and best practices, all of which help to establish a lasting network of support for current and ultimately for future leaders.
Each summer, new Department Chairs, School Directors, Associate Deans, and Deans gather for a three-day workshop & retreat designed to jump start their leadership roles. The event includes “how-tos,” theories of leadership, resources, strategy sharing, and cohort building. Leaders from across campus participate in panel discussions and give presentations, while attendees also have time to interact in small groups and reflect on their own choices as leaders.

This series provides a forum through which to build infrastructure and share best practices regarding several Associate Dean for Faculty responsibilities, including faculty conduct, RPT, Career-line Faculty reappointments and promotions, and grade complaints and academic misconduct appeals. The Forum is been run by Vice Provost for Faculty Sarah Projansky (Main Campus) and Associate Vice President Angie Fagerlin (Health Sciences).
